“If you’re going through hell, keep going. ~Winston Churchill

As all of us have aged, we have learned many valuable lessons that we wish we could have told the ‘younger me’ several years ago. One of those lessons would be the art of perseverance.

The Power of PerseveranceWhether that be in the various tasks that we do or while trying to achieve some challenging goal, we know that we need to put in the effort if we want to reach that pinnacle in front of us. Whatever difficulties we face along the way, we somehow find a way to push forward.

So it is in our spiritual lives, especially when it comes to prayer. How often do we encounter dry spells where we seem to have lost our desire to speak to our Father? How often do we use the excuse of being too tired, not in the mood, or too busy to thank the Lord for the blessings of the day?

Perhaps this anonymous poem may push you over the hump.

You Mustn’t Quit

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest! if you must – but never quit.

Life is queer, with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about
When he might have won if he’d stuck it out;
Stick to your task, though the pace seems slow –
You may succeed with one more blow.

Success is failure turned inside out –
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt –
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit –
It’s when things seem worst that YOU MUSTN’T QUIT.

Consider it all joy when you encounter various trials, for you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. And let perseverance be perfect, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. ~James 1:2-4
