Pastoral, Vocational, and Professional Background
As a husband, father and ordained deacon, Deacon Allen brings a deeply pastoral perspective to his ministry, speaking honestly about family life, discernment, prayer, and the challenges of living the Gospel in today’s world.
He is a permanent deacon in the Archdiocese of Chicago, ordained in 2009, and currently serves at St. Anne’s Parish in Barrington, Illinois. With more than 30 years of experience ministering to teens and young adults, he was blessed to serve alongside his wife, Stephanie, as Youth Ministry Coordinators at St. Hubert Church. Deacon Allen is the proud father of three young adult sons and a grandfather to three grandsons.
He built a successful career in the Telecom industry, serving corporate clients worldwide. Those years taught him how to stay grounded in faith while balancing the responsibilities of work, family life, and the diaconate – wisdom he now brings into every presentation.
Deacon Allen is also a published blogger and author. His blog, On the Inside; On the Outside, reflects on how work and everyday circumstances are opportunities to encounter God, live the Gospel, and serve others.
A gifted musician and songwriter, Deacon Allen has written more than 160 songs, some of which have been recorded by a Nashville artist. He has performed with several well-known Catholic musicians and, for over 24 years, was the lead guitarist and vocalist for The Gold Coast Orchestra, one of Chicago’s most energetic dance bands.
