Last evening, I had an opportunity to get together with a friend for dinner. This may not seem like a big deal, but it really is. With my schedule, I really don’t get out socially very often. So when an opportunity like this comes about, I do not take it lightly. Especially when this friend is venturing out and beginning a new phase of his life.
We shared a lot of good conversation and laughter and relived some of the important aspects of our relationship. It was an amazing evening filled with friendship, love, and mutual respect between two men of faith.
This was not only an important time between friends, but it was also an important reminder of how God has blessed us with the gift of relationships in our lives. How often do we take this gift for granted? How often do we forget the need we have to communicate face-to-face with those we love? How often do we get so wrapped up with the tasks of everyday life that we neglect the people who matter the most to us? Always remember:
You can kiss your family and friends good-bye and put miles between you, but at the same time you carry them with you in your heart, your mind, your stomach, because you do not just live in a world but a world lives in you. ~Frederick Buechner
Make a commitment today to reach out to someone you haven’t seen or spoken with in a while. Schedule a time to reconnect. Make it happen. God has placed this person in your life for a reason. Don’t miss the opportunity to be a part of God’s master plan.
