As the saying goes, “If it weren’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all.”
Here I sit in my hotel room in beautiful Whippany, New Jersey as I prepare myself for what I hope is going to be a good night’s rest.
As I reflect back on this day in prayer, I think about all of the ups and downs that I experienced. I think about the work that I rushed to complete before leaving for the airport. I think about how I was stuck in the airport for an extra two hours due to a delay in Newark, New Jersey. I think about the traffic that I was caught in as I drove from the airport to the hotel. When I did finally arrive at the hotel, I realized that I just missed the free social hour.
If it weren’t for bad luck…
So I retreated back to my rental car and took a drive to try and find a place to eat. I drove for more than 30 minutes trying to find something – anything – as I was beginning to get hangry. I finally stumbled across a submarine shop. I took my order to go and headed back to the hotel.
Back in my room as I devoured my meal, I tried to connect my work computer to the hotel Internet, but it was not cooperating. After about an hour of trying, I finally got connected.
If it weren’t for bad luck…
Yes, many things did not go the way that I had hoped this day. But then I remembered the beautiful sunset I saw from the airplane window before we landed. I remember thinking how great our God is that he created such a beautiful world. How blessed I am to be a part of his awesome creation.
It’s moments like this that makes me look forward to what tomorrow might bring.
A Prayer for a Good Day (by: Carrie Lowrance)
Dear Lord,
Thank you for getting me up this morning to greet another day and live for You. You make my life truly good. I know that there are a thousand different things that can go wrong today, but I choose to focus on Your goodness. I pray that You will help me have a good day today, despite my changing circumstances. Give me the wisdom and discernment to know how I can help someone or reach out to someone who is hurting. Help me be a good part of someone else’s day and encourage me to think of others before myself. And at the end of this day, remind me to thank You for every blessing You have given me. May I always take delight in every small or large blessing from You God. In your name, I pray Jesus. Amen.
