Lent is the time when we seek the Lord through prayer, by giving alms through service, and by practicing self-control through fasting. Each of us is called to a true inner conversion of heart as we try to follow God’s will more faithfully in our day-to-day lives.
So, how is your Lent going? As we are more than a couple of weeks into our Lenten journey, we should be asking ourselves the following questions:
- How do I live out in my own life the Lenten practices of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving?
- Is there something I can do to get closer to God?
- What practical steps am I taking to carve out time for daily prayer?
- Is there something I can give up and replace with a spiritual practice?
- Is there some sin that I am holding on to and need to confess?
- Do I stand up for my Catholic-Christian beliefs, or do I compromise my faith in order to be politically correct?
- What are three words that describe the person I want to be at the end of this Lenten journey?
- Do I look for the best in others, or do I have a judgmental attitude?
- In what ways do I help others shoulder their burdens as Christ helps me shoulder mine?
- When people look at me, do they see a reflection of Jesus?
Almighty and ever living God, you invite us deeper into your world, your people, your Lent. May this time be one of outward focus; seeking you in those we often ignore. Help us live a Lent focused on freedom, generosity, and encounter. Give us hearts hungry to serve you and those who need what we have to give. ~Author Unknown
