Have you ever gazed at yourself in a mirror and wondered who was looking back at you? Have you ever questioned if you were following the path of God’s will? Have you ever asked if you are being the person God made you to be?These are very challenging questions because these force us to look inward. Self-reflection is always difficult because it can often lead us down a path of negativity, where we struggle to find the good in ourselves because we dwell on the bad or the underdeveloped areas of our being. But self-reflection can also be very good when it leads us to spiritual insight.

Perhaps the deep-down-desire to actively have God in your life is present, but it seems to be drowned out by all the surrounding noise. So we often come up with excuses for our behavior – most likely to make us feel better for what we did or didn’t do. So let me ask you:

What is keeping you from God? How big is your “but?” Do you find yourself stating:

“I should do that, BUT…”
“I should really pray more, BUT…”
“I know that I should put the needs of others before my own, BUT…”
“I really should volunteer my time because it is important, BUT…”
“I should attend Mass this weekend, BUT…”

How Big is Your “But?”Years ago, I heard a motivational speaker say, “Don’t be full of should. It’s time to wipe the should off your face.” It’s time that we leave our “buts” behind. We must back-away from uttering these statements. You can’t let it bite you in the rear and keep you where you are. God is patiently waiting for your love and attention, but you have to take the first step.

Don’t let your “but” get in the way of what God has planned for you. If you open your heart and let God inside, you will experience the peace and joy of being in a relationship with the One who will completely transform your very existence – no ifs, and’s, or buts.

Ever since the creation of the world, his invisible attributes of eternal power and divinity have been able to be understood and perceived in what he has made. As a result, they have no excuse; for although they knew God they did not accord him glory as God or give him thanks. Instead, they became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless minds were darkened. ~Romans 1:20-21
