One of the focus areas I strive to improve upon in my spiritual life is to incorporate more meditative prayer into my existing prayer life. I had mentioned this to my retreat spiritual director and she asked, “Why do you want to do this? Why do you want to meditate or center?” That was a really good question that I needed to reflect on more deeply.

There is a calmness within silence that I desire; a stillness that permeates within my very soul. When I move myself to the silence of prayer, I am enriched with the joy of being present with my Creator. When I allow myself to center, my frantic and busy life becomes less chaotic and I can find rest in the arms of my heavenly Father. When I am still, I allow myself to be fully present with God – and how I long to spend some quality time with the One who loves me for who I am, flaws and all. When I center myself in the Lord, I feel a closer connection with Him.

Centered or Off-Centered?I want to be centered so that I don’t become off-centered.

I want to center so that I am centered with the One who makes me whole.

I want to center because I want to be fully present with God; to open my heart and deepen our relationship so that He can enter and fill my emptiness. I want to center so that when I leave that state of silence and return to my noisy existence, I will know that I am not alone. That no matter what comes my way, God is right beside me and within me. I will be strengthened from within my silence to become one with God so that I can share that love of Christ with others.

What about you? Are you centered or off-centered?

I strongly encourage you to make the time in your busy schedule to center yourself in prayer. Become one with the Lord in silence, and you will reap the benefits ofCentered or Off-Centered? being in a relationship with the One who loves you more than you can ever imagine.

Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus. ~1Thessalonians 5:16-18
