The Power of the Power

power outletIt’s Thursday morning: I’m working from home as I always do. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and I’m on the telephone with a very important customer. Suddenly, the lights begin flashing, my computer monitor flickers and goes black, the lights go out, and my telephone disconnects. Yes, we just took another power hit. (This has been a frequent occurrence lately, primarily due to some road construction that is happening at the end of our block.) So I quickly grab my mobile phone and redial the customer. I was saved by technology after technology nearly did me in. And that got me thinking.

We live in a world that is so heavily reliant on a reliable power source. For example, while the power was out, I could not heat up my lunch in the microwave. I could not light my electric-start stove to heat up my lunch either. I lost my Internet connection which would allow me to continue doing my work. It was difficult to see because the lights were no longer functioning. I was literally left in the dark because of this power outage.

How many times have we felt this way about our faith? How many times have we failed to trust in a God who continues to supply us with everything we need? How many times have we felt in the dark because we didn’t see the light?

God is the number one power source of our lives! Everything we do should be based on God’s Word and His will for our lives. If we only trust in God and rely on Him for our energy and sustenance, we will find that we will be forever directed by His everlasting light. God will supply us with the power that we need to forge ahead and to blaze new trails. We just have to be open in order to receive it.

If we allow God to fill us with the Holy Spirit, we will be unstoppable. We will be fervent in faith, filled with a desire to serve others. We will have a deep confidence that with God by our side, we will have the strength to all things. It is then when we have truly found the power of the Power!
