Can Spring Be Far Off?

By January 31, 2014No Comments

robinThis morning, I was standing in our kitchen, waiting for my tea to steep. Gazing outside the window at the cold and snowy landscape, I noticed a robin in our neighbor’s tree. How strange, I thought, to see a robin at the end of January. We usually don’t see these birds here until the weather warms up, like around early March. But there she was, just sitting in the tree and enjoying the winter morning.

As we are in the middle of a rough and challenging winter, I think that we can all learn a lesson from this misplaced robin. How often do we complain about the cold temperatures and what seems like non-stop snow accumulation? How often do we get angry over the things that Mother Nature constantly throws our way? How often do we get frustrated because we seem to be stuck, cocooned in our homes for what seems like months at a time?

Perhaps we need a fresh outlook. If each of us could just be like that robin…sitting there in the midst of a fresh winter morning, taking in the views of God’s immense and glorious creation, and basking in the feeling of knowing that we are loved and cherished by our creator. To be able to see each new day, from our perch, as a gift from God. To start each day with a set of new eyes so that we can make each day special to those who come across in our daily lives.

Can Spring be far off? Maybe not from the weather’s perspective. But if we could only live this feeling of Spring today and everyday, our own personal Spring would blossom within us each day.
